Privacy policy

This policy explains how ML Scrap Metal ("we", "us") handles personal information when you use this website or contact us, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Who we are

What we collect and why

• Messages you send us. This website has no forms. When you WhatsApp, call or email us, we receive your name, phone number or email address, and whatever you send (for example photos of your scrap and your location). We use this only to reply, quote and arrange a collection or drop-off.
• Website analytics, only if you accept cookies. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and see which pages are useful. It does not use cookies to track you across sites and does not identify you personally. It only runs after you click Accept on the cookie banner.
• Your cookie choice. We store whether you accepted or rejected analytics in your browser (local storage and a first-party cookie) for 12 months, so we don't ask again on every visit.
• Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and to keep the site running.

Who else processes it

• Vercel Inc. hosts this website and provides the analytics. Its servers may be outside South Africa; it protects data under its own privacy commitments.
• Google, only if you click "Show interactive map" or "Get directions". Google then processes your visit under its own privacy policy.
• WhatsApp (Meta), when you choose to message us on WhatsApp, under WhatsApp's privacy policy.
• Facebook (Meta), only if you follow the link to our Facebook page.

We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep messages only as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any sale, and for any period the law requires us to keep records. Analytics data is kept in aggregate form only.

Your rights

Under POPIA you can:

• ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy;
• ask us to correct or delete it;
• object to us processing it;
• withdraw your cookie consent at any time using "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page;
• complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.

Security

The website is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and collects no personal information through forms. We take reasonable steps to keep the messages you send us safe.

Changes

If we change how we handle personal information, we'll update this page and the date above.
